TaDa – Colour Choices Begins

 Shadow for the Doors

I know, unlike my fellow bloggers who are so organised with their choices, I have been putting off the inevitable and doing the old Scarlett O'Hara as in "I'll think about it tomorrow."

Well, now we are owners of this block of land and with contracts, permits and approvals looming, decided that I had better get a wriggle on and start doing something.
Travertine Malt for
the benchtop

I know its only the beginning but at least its a start.
One down heaps more to go!!!

Gorgeous - I believe 'Shadow' is very close to 'Laminex Stipple Seal' my secondary colour in the kitchen. Absolutely love the Travertine on the Benchtop. Well done.

Fantastic choices Janine. I'm with Deb... That benchtop is scrumptious. Loving the darker doors too. Nice and warm.
So what's next for the choosing?

Great colour choice for the benchtop Janine! So your colour choices will be neutral tones im assuming?

That's exactly right Tonia, neutral is the way to go for me!!!

Whoa...Janine, new blog fonts, you and Reinsey are far too clever for me.

Where are the next colours???? was that selection for ensuite or kitchen? and who manufactures the Travertine. Just want to take a bite of that beautiful nougat slab.

Yeah! That's exactly what it looks like. A big Lucious juicy chunk of delicious nougat.

Hello my dear friends, need to get back over to Parbury Wilsonart in Scoresby probably next week (they are closed till then), now have a serious contender for kitchen bench, which is a Laminex one, but want to get more samples, so stay tuned. Don't want to make the wrong decision until I get samples. They look great on their website, but sometimes the real thing can look a little different.

Oh sorry Deb, the colours above are for the ensuite!! Am really excited about the possiblility for the bathroom - check out their website its http://2010.lincolnsentry.com.au/home-owners/decorative-surfaces/index.cfm?ct_id=65 and check out Granito Boticello, that's what I'm thinking for the main bathroom top, not sure what colour doors yet, need to see it in person. Also on the same page is Stone Marquina, thats a contender for the kitchen bench. The other one I like for the kitchen is a Laminex one - check this out: http://www.laminex.com.au/browns.aspx and look for Kashmir Granite. I need your opinions ladies!!

And check them out I have...
Okay - so ensuite = Travertine Malt with Shadow doors, so you've got texture in basically a solid colour with solid colour doors. What are you thinking for the tiles? And would you then want to carry those tiles through into the bathroom?

Kitchen - you're having timber floors aren't you? The Kashmir Granite goes nicely with shadow as well. If you went with the stone marquina you'd need something a bit busier for the doors, such as a timber look. Glass or tiled splashback?

Bathroom - That Granito Boticello is luuurvly. From the sample, I think you'd have to go with white doors, hence the tile question earlier.

I don't know if this helps, but our colour chick advised us to pick tiles first as they are the most limited and then laminates as there's freaking thousands of them.

And for what it's worth - I think you're amazing tacking this without the safety of a colour consultant to subtly guide you. I'd still be stuck on bricks if I had to go it alone. xx

Ditto from me - all look good Janine and ever so daunting. I'm with Reinsey, keep all laminates in the wish list and take a look at your large areas i.e. flooring/tiles. Trust you received my email; didn't know how to attach on blog. You having a quiet NYE too....we bailed on a large get together in a townhouse with no aircon!! plus fireworks send BonBon crazy. Responsible Furkid owners.

Same same - we're staying in and chilling with the furkids. Bella carries on like she's been shot when there's fireworks.

Thanks ladies, what would I do without you all.
To answer your questions, the sort of tiles I would want would be something similar to the Travertine malt but with a little more colour. Definitely want lightish colour tiles, as the MOTH spreads talcum powder around, and it shows up less on lighter tiles.

Yes, we are having timber floors, but are having a vinyl wrap kitchen, so laminate colours dont come into it, will need to look at what Category One Colours are available. Wanted to stick with lighter colour doors, as in my original brown & cream bench kitchen of the 1970's I had dark brown walnut looking doors and over time they chip which makes it look really tacky, and I don't want too much brown near the timber floor as I have absolutely no idea what colour the floor is going to end up once stained :(. You wouldn't want too much brown.

Yes I really like the granito boticello for Megans bathroom, again neutral and I could put a lovely pebble highlight strip in the shower with whitish tiles and tiles with the grey in them on the floor. That way I can put outrageous coloured towels in to make it look different.

We went to the tile place UltimateTiles a few weeks ago and they had a great range, so finding tiles that are neutral shouldn't be a worry. I really have had trouble finding laminates I like, so its quite the reverse for me.

Even though my daughter-in-law is a qualified Interior Designer (but doesn't work in that field), they are pretty busy, and I don't want to burden them with my procrastinating. Also, I don't want to be put off things because its not someone else's taste.

Thank you for your help ladies, I am sure there will be more questions to come.

We are spending the night in - I have ironing to finish, watching the last season of The Tudors, took Megs to see Gullivers Travels today - great movie, thoroughly enjoyed it.
